The Argentine embassy has refused to issue visas to players and officials of the Nigerian U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, forcing the team to put on hold their proposed training trip to that country.

The Nigerian team preparing for next month’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile was billed to travel Tuesday but the setback has forced the team to suspend the trip.

“We applied early but they didn’t tell us there was an issue until now. It is out of our hands”, he said.

“Our plan was for the team to move to Chile from Argentina. We do not know when the team will travel, we are only waiting for the embassy to respond positively,” revealed Nigeria Football Federation, General Secretary, Muhammed Sanusi.

Nigeria will join fellow African teams Guinea, Mali and South Africa as representatives of Africa at the FIFA U-17 competition between October 17 and November 8.
