ARGENTINA: Navy head sacked a month after disappearance of submarine with 44 crew members

Authorities in Argentina have ordered the sacking of its head of Navy, Admiral Marcelo Srur after the disappearance of a submarine with 44 crew members on board.

Reports say the sacking of Admiral Srur came as scores of the relatives of the missing crew members protested over the incident outside the presidential palace in the capital, Buenos Aires.

“They promised us that they would keep looking for them, exhausting all the resources,” Luis Tagliapietra, father of missing crew member Damian Tagliapietra, told reporters.

“They told me the saying ‘a sailor does not leave another sailor behind’. Well, here we are, we’re reminding them of that,” he added.

Reports say Argentina’s search for the vessel which lost contact shortly after it reported an electrical problem is now being supported by aircraft and ships from 18 countries, including the UK, Russia and the US.
