Arik's 'old' management heads to court over takeover by AMCON

The Management of Arik Airline has vowed to challenge the Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) takeover of the airline in court.

AMCON had earlier on Thursday announced that it has taken over Arik Airline and appointed a new management, assuring all stakeholders that its intervention was in the best interest of the general public, workers, creditors and other aviation interest groups.

It announced Capt. Roy Ukpebo Ilegbodu, an aviation expert as the new manager of the airline under the receivership of Oluseye Opasanya.

AMCON takeover was sequel to the Airlines’s huge indebtedness to local and foreign creditors among other challenges.

However, reacting to the development later on Thursday, the management of Arik Air, vowed that the takeover will not go unchallenged in the court of law.

The embattled airline’s Senior Vice President, Ado Sanusi, made Arik position known at a joint news conference with the newly appointed receiver manager, Oluseye Opasanya, and the airline’s technical consultant, Roy Ilegbodu.

While disclosing that Arik has been presented with authentic court order announcing AMCON as the new owners of the company, Sanusi said, “As responsible citizens, we have obeyed the court order which appointed Olaniwun Ajayi (SAN) as the receivership manager.

“We will comply but I want to make it clear that we have a right to challenge the court order. In the coming days, we will make our position known. It is a court order and we can challenge it and we will challenge it to the highest court of authority.”

He went further to disclose that while the legal battle would be on, the parties involved have accepted to allow Arik Air continue to run without any interruption.
