Akwa Ibom makes history, floats own airline

Soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been accused of abducting Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd), a Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters to Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Soldiers allegedly sent by the GOC of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamil Sarham were said to have, based on a petition written by Senator Godswill Akpabio, picked Ekong up, midnight on Friday.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner for Information, Charles Udoh said Capt. Ekong was picked last night and taken to an unknown location in Port Harcourt.

Adding that the state government was yet to establish contact with his abductors, Udoh said, “The Chief of Army Staff has said that the Military had no role to play in the elections. When did it become the duty of the Army to investigate petitions, arrest and detain people?”

Governor Wike had also on Friday accused soldiers sent by Major General Sarham of attempt to assassinate him.

The development is coming as the PDP had accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of using security operatives to arrest, harass and shoot at its leaders across the federation.
