Army capable of defending Nigeria, Buratai warns hate preachers, agitators

Amidst growing tension in the country arising from hate speeches and diverse agitations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai, has assured that the Nigerian Army is capable of defending the territorial integrity when in danger.

Buratai, who not too long ago hinted on a possible coup and warned army officers hobnobbing with politicians for such wicked plot to desist from such, further reiterated Nigerian Army’s loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

According to him, the army will always remain apolitical.

He stated this on Sunday in his goodwill message to Nigerian Army Day interdenominational church service held at All Saints’ Military Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

The Nigerian Army chief vowed that the army he leads is apart from being totally loyal to the present administration, also committed to the sustenance of the country’s growing democracy.

“I want to, on behalf of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, reiterate our unalloyed loyalty to the President and Commander- In- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Army will continue to remain apolitical while ensuring the sustenance of democracy,” he said.

Further speaking at the occasion, Buratai, who was represented by Major General Chris Jemitola, Chief of Policy and Plans, Army Headquarters, also assured the army that issues bordering on their training and welfare were being taken seriously.

He said: “We will continue to do our best to ensure the comfort of our officers and soldiers, including their families. You have shown commitment, dedication, courage, resilience and the will to succeed. You have all done very well and I am proud to be your Chief of Army Staff.

“However, I will charge you to remain focused, disciplined and loyal to constituted authority while ensuring that we carry out our roles effectively.”

Buratai’s assurance on Nigerian Army’s capability to secure the country in time of danger is coming on the heels of present tension in the country following a quit notice to Ndigbo living in the North, and the insistence of some Igbo youth groups to have Biafra independence.

They are loyal because the whole wide world has condemned military government if not they would have seized power for long.

Your stupidity and madness are intense! If it takes sacrificing all the Biafra agitators for peace to reign in Nigeria, the army will not hesitate to kill you all! Now that there’s still time for repentance, embrace peace and you won’t have to blame yourself.

Mind you, the prime duty of the military is to defend the territorial integrity of the country and which they have been doing. For internal crisis, it’s not their duty to that extent but yet they are trying. Give kudos to them. It’s not easy.
