Army recalls, demotes Gen. Ransome-Kuti

The Nigerian Army has commuted the dismissal sentence passed on a former Commander of the Multi National Joint Task Force, Enitan Ransome-Kuti, to demotion from brigadier-general to colonel.

It will be recalled that Ransome-Kuti was sentenced to six months imprisonment and dismissed from the Army by a Special Court Martial on October 15, 2015.

However, a letter from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, conveyed the decision of the Army Council on his reinstatememt and demotion.

The letter, which also directed that Ransome-Kuti be immediately released from custody, was signed by Col. O.N Taiwo on behalf of the COAS.

The letter is coming after Ransome-Kuti’s lawyer, Femi Falana threatened a legal action over the continued incarceration of his client even after he had served out his six months sentence. Femi Falana’s letter was dated 26 of February.

Ransome-Kuti was tried on a three count charge of failure to perform military duties and miscellaneous offences relating to service property.
