Army pays off suspected Boko Haram suspects with $10

The Nigerian Army has said it gave the 250 people suspected to have links with the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram but recently released after clearance, the sum of $10 each.

The Army stated this on Monday in a statement by its spokesman, Col Sani Usman.

“Yesterday (Sunday), a total of 249 cleared suspected Boko Haram terrorists and accomplices were released… as approved by the chief of army staff in Maiduguri,”  Usman said.

According to Colonel Usman, those released included 169 men, 46 women and 34 children.

He further disclosed that they were handed over to the Borno state government.

They were told “to remain law-abiding and go about their lawful business.

“Each of them was given a token of N3,000 (naira, $10.4, 9.4 euros),” he said.
