Arsenal complete £46.5m signing of Alexandre Lacazette

English Premier League side Arsenal have completed a club-record signing of French striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for £46.5m.

The 26-year-old is reported to have agreed a five-year deal and becomes the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history, eclipsing the £42m Wenger paid to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid four years ago.

Lacazette, who has won 11 caps for France, was the second-highest scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 28 goals, behind Paris St-Germain’s Edinson Cavani, with 35.

Lacazette scored 129 goals in 275 matches in all competitions for Lyon after breaking into the first team in the 2009-10 campaign.

Lacazette had previously been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and was said to have his heart set on linking up with his compatriot Antoine Griezmann, but the Spanish club’s transfer ban forced him to reconsider.

Left-back Sead Kolasinac, who joined from Schalke, is Arsenal’s other recruit since the end of last season; while the club is yet to agree new deals for Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
