Arsenal fans continue protests against Wenger despite new contract

In spite of the new two-year contract signed by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, fans who have been protesting over the Frenchman’s continuous stay at the club have declared their intentions of continuing the campaign next season.

Wenger’s Arsenal finished in 5th position in the Premier League this season, the first time they have finished outside the top four and miss out on Champions League in 20 years.

The 67-year old had to deal with growing protests from fans towards the end of the season, with things coming to a head after an embarrassing 10-2 aggregate defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Fans had protested against a new deal for the boss, but Arsenal went on to announce on Wednesday that Wenger will be staying having signed a new two-year contract.

However, members of the “Wenger out” group remain committed to making life difficult for the 67-year-old next season despite a morale-boosting FA Cup final victory over Chelsea at the weekend.

“People have already started waking up to the empty rhetoric,” Mark King, one of the group’s members, told the London Evening Standard.

“The Cup Final was great but nothing has changed.

“It won’t take long for the frustration to return to the level it was at after the Crystal Palace game.

“Yesterday was like our Dunkirk, a bit of a defeat but we’ll take some glory from the fact we gave it a good shot. We’ll regroup and plan for next season.”

Another member, Chris Butler, added: “We’re going to be all over him. We’re not going to stop.”

Meanwhile, Wenger after signing the new contract expressed said he’s targeting to win next season’s Premier League title.

“I love this club and I am looking forward to the future with optimism and excitement. This is a strong group of players and with some additions we can be even more successful. We’re committed to mounting a sustained league challenge and that will be our focus this summer and next season.”
