Arsenal lift Emirates Cup despite losing to Sevilla

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Sevilla but were crowned winners of the Emirates Cup on Sunday having scored more goals than other teams in the tournament.

The Gunners defeated Benfica 5-2 on Saturday, a scoreline that put them in a better position thanks to Emirates Cup rules.

The Arsene Wenger side squandered some good chances before the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

Sevilla went ahead shortly after the break when Joaquin Correa notched past Petr Cech. But the Gunners equalised on the hour mark when Alexandre Lacazette tapped home.

About ten minutes before the end of regulation time, midfielder Steven N’Zonzi found the top corner with a stunning strike to hand the La Liga giants the win.

Sevilla won both their games on each day of the tournament but Arsenal scored more goals.

Both teams finished on nine points but a plus-two-goal difference for the hosts made them champions.

Arsenal are lifting the Emirates Cup for the fifth time.
