A human rights activist in Rivers State, Bar Ken Aswuete, was on Monday morning murdered in Aluu, Ikwere Local Government Area (LGA) of the state by unknown gunmen.

The frontline Port Harcourt-based lawyer and one of the counsels for the former council chairman of Asari-Toru LGA was killed by suspected assassins who shot and left him in a pool of his own blood not far from his residence in Aluu.

Neighbours had rushed him to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital after they saw him rolling on the ground. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
