Asset declaration forms that nailed Onnoghen have not been verified, ex-CCB official tells Tribunal

According to a prosecution witness, Mr. Awal Yakassai, the two assets declaration forms submitted by the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, have not been verified by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Yakassai who is a former Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) official stated this at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Thursday while witnessing in the ongoing trial of the suspended CJN.

The Ex-Officio admitted to this while being cross examined by Onnoghen’s lead defence lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).

The prosecution witness explained that the suspended CJN submitted two assets declaration forms for years 2014 and 2015 on December 14, 2016 but were yet to be verified.

‎The two CCB 1 Forms meant to cover for Onnoghen’s declarations for the two years, are the basis for the six counts of false, non-declaration of assets of which the suspended CJN is being prosecuted.

In the form, as admitted by the witness, the columns for verification of the contents of the forms remained blank and unsigned.
