Atiku cautions Nigerians against scooping fuel from fallen tankers
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has urged Nigerians to prioritize their safety amidst the country’s challenging times.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Atiku emphasized that citizens’ lives are precious and should not be put at risk by scooping fuel from fallen petroleum tankers.
“I know that the times are tough for Nigerians. It has even been made more challenging by the trial-and-error policies of this bumbling administration,” Atiku acknowledged. “However, your lives are the most precious things that should never be mortgaged.”

Atiku stressed that scooping petrol from a fallen tanker is akin to suicide, citing the highly flammable nature of the liquid. “Scooping petrol, a highly flammable liquid from a fallen tanker, is a suicide that no one should undertake,” he warned.
The statement comes days after a disastrous fuel tanker incident in Jigawa which killed scores of people, and an incident in Cross River State, where residents were seen scooping fuel from a fallen tanker. Atiku expressed concern that such tragedies could recur if urgent action is not taken.
“We’ve experienced too many tragedies from incidents such as the latest one in Cross River State, and everything must be done to avert another,” Atiku emphasized.
Atiku appealed to government agencies to launch comprehensive awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers. “Your lives matter to you and your loved ones,” he emphasized.
