Buhari's executive order will lead to another recession –Atiku

A group backing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s “Let anybody lead this country, not PDP” comment.

In a statement by Atiku/Obi Advocacy Group, promoters of the PDP presidential candidate and his vice, Peter Obi, frowned at the statement credited to Buhari and described it as despotic and totalitarian.

A statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman at the weekend, had quoted Buhari to have made the comment at a meeting with some South East leaders at the State House on Friday.

But in its response, the Atiku group said in a statement issued by its spokesman, Samuel Odion:

“The Atiku/Obi Advocacy Group views with dismay the statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari that ‘Let anybody lead this country, not PDP’. The statement has a despotic nuance and it is very suggestive.

“What could the president be implying by this? Is this statement a forecast of what will happen when the APC suffers defeat in the 2019 presidential election? The president should be reminded that he was handed over power without any form of threat.

“Our democracy cannot be nurtured with threats. Temperance in utterance is required of anyone in the very sensitive position of president. We urge the president to do better.”
