Politicians cloning PVCs in Imo, INEC alleges

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has described as untrue claims made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on unclaimed Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

Atiku had on Tuesday during a rally held in Oshogbo, Osun State capital, accused INEC of illegally releasing unclaimed PVCs to some APC governors.

But Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Segun Agbaje, told representatives of political parties in the state on Wednesday that the electoral body would never do any such thing.

Though he did not mention Atiku’s name he said, “Some political parties claimed that INEC was releasing unclaimed PVCs to the All Progressive Congress. That is untrue. INEC will never do that. We don’t give PVC by proxy. Our interest is free and fair election and we are working very hard to achieve that. We remain non partisan.”

According to Agbaje, the PVCs still in INEC offices are available for collection at Registered Areas until Monday, 21st January.

Giving a breakdown of collection of PVC’s in the state, he said a total of 1,254,467 PVCs (75.58 per cent) have been collected out of 1,681,930 received in the state.

He added that a balance of 427,463 PVCs (25.42 per cent) are yet to be collected.
