Atletico Madrid boss Simeone signs 2-yr contract extension

Manager Diego Simeone has signed a two-year contract extension with La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid.

The 47-year-old Argentinian, who was appointed by the club in 2011, had a deal due to expire at the end of this season but will now stay until June 2020.

Simeone was an Atletico player during his playing days, and he led the club to the Spanish league title in 2014, and finished Champions League runners-up twice – in 2014 and 2016.

Atletico also won the Europa League in 2012 and the Spanish Cup in 2013.

They have won and drew one match each in the current campaign, beginning with a 2-2 draw at Girona and thrashing Las Palmas 5-1 in last week’s encounter.

Simeone will lead his side to play away against Valencia this Saturday.
