Australian Health Chief doubts global Covid-19 reports, says cases could be 10 times more

Australia’s top Health Chief, Brendan Murphy, has disputed the figures of recorded Covid-19 cases globally, saying the true numbers could be “five to ten times” higher than one million.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday, the Health Chief said: “We know that judging by the death rate, the testing rate, in many countries they’re not detecting all the cases. There are some countries that don’t have the capacity to test,”

“In Australia, we’re pretty confident that our testing has been the best in the world” he added

According to Australia’s health department, about 270,000 tests were conducted as of April 2.

Meanwhile, the country reported 248 new patients on Friday as total confirmed cases climbed to 5,224 with 23 deaths.
