Tension grips oil firms in Niger Delta as Avengers renew threat

Niger Delta Avengers, on Monday, once again bombed another crude oil pipeline, this time, a pipeline operated by ExxonMobil.

Spokesperson of the militant group, Brigadier General Mudoch Agbinibo, who made this known, said that the Qua Iboe 48-inch crude oil export line was attack on Monday evening.

He again called on International Oil Companies (IOCs) to stop oil exportation from the Niger Delta Region.

“At about 7:30pm, the Niger Delta Avengers blow up ExxonMobil Qua Iboe 48″ crude oil export pipeline.”

The militant group wondered: “When will these International Oil companies (IOC) learn to listen? “We (Niger Delta Avengers) said no export,” Agbinibo.

The activities of the Niger Delta militant groups since insurgency in the oil region resurfaced early this year, has left the country’s oil output cut by around 600,000 barrels per day (bpd), dropping from 2.2 million bpd at the start of 2016 to 1.6 million bpd.

However, the oil major said on Tuesday no attacks had taken place at its facilities after Nigerian militant group Niger Delta Avengers said it had blown up the Qua Iboe 48″ crude oil export pipeline operated by the company.

“There were no attacks on our facilities,” said Exxon Mobil spokesman Todd Spitler.

Qua Iboe is Nigeria’s largest crude oil stream and exports usually amount to more than 300,000 barrels per day.
