Tension grips oil firms in Niger Delta as Avengers renew threat

Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), has described as false the claim by the State Security Service (SSS), that it arrested its members, asking them to publicly present the suspects to pressmen if it was not false.

The Department of State Service (DSS) in a statement signed by Tony Opuiyo on Friday claimed that it had arrested one Selky Torughedi, a suspected member of NDA and associate of Governor Ekpemupolo known as Tompolo.

It also claimed that another suspected NDA member was also picked up while planning to carry out attacks on oil installations.

However, in a statement posted on its website, and signed by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, the NDA refuted the claim of arrest of any of its member by the DSS.

It added, that it was only a ploy by the agency to fool President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed Nigerians and to give a false sense of comfort over the situation in the region.

According to Agbinibo, the persons arrested were only DSS moles whom the department arrested and labelled criminals after they demanded payment for the clandestine operations they had carried out for the country.

Part of the statement reads, “The boys have the right to demand for their money from SSS, why not pay them instead of arresting and labelling them as Niger Delta Avenger members?

“If the SSS are denying this, let them allow the suspects to speak to the press. We (Niger Delta Avengers) don’t have any connection with these boys. We dare the SSS to allow the boys to tell the world their side of the story.

“SSS and Nigerian Army can’t win the Niger Delta war by feeding their President with false information about situation of things in the region.

“It’s all good because as it seems the SSS is now having internal crisis with most of their sleeper agents and it’s a sign that God is on our side.”
