The Super Falcons of Nigeria have defeated the Lionesses of Cameroon one goal to nothing in the final showdown of the African Women Cup of Nations on Saturday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports Stadium in Yaoundé, to win the African women title for the 8th time.

The Falcons, who also won in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014, confirmed their dominance in Africa as they deprived the hosts Cameroon of claiming the trophy on home soil.

A goal from Oparanozie in the second half gave the Florence Omagbemi’s side the deserved victory.

Disappointed, the Lionesses have never lifted the title since the inception of the Women championship, but have finished second place in 2004, 2014 and now in 2016.
