Azubuike emerges U-23 AFCON best player

Captain of Nigerian U-23 Eagles Okechukwu Azubuike has been named the Most Valuable player of the U-23 AFCON by the Confederation of African Football’s Technical Study Group.

The 18-year old, who plays his football for Turkish side, Yeni Malatyaspor, was the pillar of Nigeria’s midfield who won the championship in Senegal and qualified for the 2016 summer Olympics in Brazil.

Nigeria beat Algeria 2-1 in the final to emerge champions of the second edition of the competition.

Nigeria striker Oghenekaro Etebo also emerged as the top scorer of the tournament, scoring 5 of Nigeria’s 9 goals at the competition.
Also, Algeria’s goalkeeper, Abdelkadir Salhi was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament with South Africa given the fair play award.
