Authorities in Bahrain have arrested a prominent human rights lawyer for daring to sue its government over restrictions imposed on neighbouring Qatar over a festering diplomatic row.
Reports say the lawyer, Issa Faraj Arhama al-Burshaid was arrested and detained after filing a case with the Supreme Administrative Court in Manama against the Cabinet.
He challenged Manama’s sanctions, against Qatar which include blocking its citizens from staying in the country along with other economic penalties.
Meanwhile, the ongoing diplomatic row between Qatar and other Gulf of Arab states has been condemned by world leaders with the US and Russia calling for dialogue while also offering to mediate in the matter.
US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have both offered to mediate between Gulf Arab states and Qatar over a festering diplomatic row which has seen a blockade on Doha for the tenth day.
