Bail hearing for former Zimbabwe finance minister postponed

The bail hearing for former Zimbabwe finance minister Ignatius Chombo which had been due for hearing in the High Court on Friday has been postponed till next Tuesday according to state radio.

Chombo who is facing charges of corruption that allegedly took place 20-years ago when he allegedly tried to defraud the central bank in 2004 was detained by the military before Robert Mugabe resigned as president.

However, his lawyer Lovemore Madhuku, revealed that Chombo will deny the allegations at his trial when it is eventually staged next week.

The former finance minister was slammed with charges of corruption and abuse of power related to his earlier tenure as minister of local government, public works and urban development.

Chombo who is believed to own more than 100 properties in Zimbabwe alone was arrested by masked gunmen on November 15, the day Zimbabwe’s army seized control of the state.
