Balogun benched for Brighton

Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun sat on the bench as his club Brighton were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City in a Premier League clash on Saturday.

Cardiff started trailing from the 6th minute when Brighton defender Lewis Dunk opened the scoring, but they levelled in the 28th minute when Callum Paterson headed in a goal.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Dale Stephens was sent off after he took a heavy touch, and in his desperation to win the ball back, he lunged for the ball taking him through Greg Cunningham.

Both sides played a rather scrappy football most of the second half, but a last-minute winner by Sol Bamba ensured the hosts secured all three points against the Seagulls.

Cardiff are now out of the bottom three in the Premier League table, as Brighton surrendered a winning position for the first time this season.

Balogun is expected to feature for the Super Eagles when they face their South African counterparts in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Johannesburg next week Saturday.
