Bandits impose N15m on Zamfara communities, threaten attack by Sunday
Bandits operating in Zamfara State have reportedly imposed N15 million levy on some communities in Tsafe local government area of the state with a threat to attack them if they failed to pay the amount by Sunday, December 1st.
According to a conflict and crisis journalist, Salihu Bamle Bakatsine, in a post he shared on his X handle on Tuesday, the bandits who have held the communities to ransom, went a step further by imposing the levy on them in a letter they sent to the community leaders.
“Bandits had imposed 15 million Naira on communities in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, threatening to attack them if payment wasn’t made by Sunday,” the journalist wrote.
“The communities are Sungawa, Yalwa, Kauyan Magaji, Gidan Sayyadi, Rakkyaɓu, Ruggar Manu, Gidan Anne, Tartse and Nasarawar Maifara.”
He added that even when such taxes and levies are paid, the bandits will not stop harassing and intimidating the communities.
“It’s sad that even when such taxes are paid, the bandits will still harass the villagers.
“They have paid similar ransoms countless times before, yet it has not stopped the bandits from killing and abducting people in these communities according to my source.”
