Bandits kill 7 JTF members, as military evacuate Borno village over B’Haram fight

Reports from Katsina say no less than seven Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) members were killed following a battle with some bandits in Tsamiyar Jino village in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, Superintendent Gambo Isa, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, however said that the report on the social media that 35 persons died as a result of the battle was not true.

According to him, Civilian JTF members in the state, popularly known as Yansakai (volunteers), had gone into the forest to fight the bandits against the warnings of Police.

The bandits, who he said, were in possession of superior weapons and had vast knowledge of the terrain overpowered the JTF members.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Army is said to have evacuated Jakana residents in Borno State to Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.

The action was said to have been taken by the military to enable them attack and flush out Boko Haram terrorists unhindered.

Jakana, which is located on Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, is supposedly a place the insurgent group converges before and after carrying out attacks on other areas of Borno and Yobe states.

In a statement confirming this development, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said through its information officer at the Northeast Zonal Office in Maiduguri, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, “Residents from Jakana town in Konduga Local Government Area, situated along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway, are being evacuated to Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons camp in Maiduguri by the military for their safety as a result of ongoing operations to flush out insurgents in the area.”
