Barcelona have kept up their excellent form since the opening of the season and defeated their city rivals Espanyol in a La Liga game on Sunday.

With the win, the Catalan giants moved nine points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish top flight.

Fresh from thrashing Real in their El Clasico encounter last week, Barca’s attacking play was again sensational, with Lamine Yamal putting up superb performance again.

Yamal provided the assist for the first goal with a fine cross which Dani Olmo turned in on 12 minutes.

Marc Casado, then played an equally good ball in behind the Espanyol defence 11 minutes later, where captain Raphinha doubled the hosts’ lead.

Olmo added Barcelona’s third before halftime as they cruised, before Espanyol pulled a goal back through Javi Puado after the hour mark.

Espanyol have now gone 27 straight derbies without a win over Barcelona and have lost six of their last seven games in La Liga.

Earlier on Sunday, third-placed Atletico Madrid beat Las Palmas 2-0 to move to within a point of Real in the table.
