Barely one week after it seized 1,100 rifles, Customs intercepts another 475

Reports say that the Tin Can Island Command of Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has again recovered another 475 rifles. This came after it also on September 11 announced the interception of a 20-foot container load of 1,100 pump action rifles.

The discovery, said to have been made on Monday, alleges that the latest shipment was imported by the same importer of the 1,100 rifles which were uncovered barely a week ago.

Sources familiar with the development say that the discovery was made following the order of NCS Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bashir Yussuf, for a detailed profiling of the importer of the 1,100 rifles intercepted earlier.

Meanwhile, the Tin Can Island Command Public Relation Officer (PRO), Uche Ejesieme, commenting on the matter said that profiling of the container has not been concluded to determine its content. Consequently, he said that the command would not go public about the content of the container.

NCS had in January this year seized a truck carrying a container of 49 boxes containing 661 Ak 47 rifles in Lagos.
It had also later in May, intercepted 440 pieces of riffles at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
