BATTLE FOR COSON: 2face manager paraded in court for forgery

The battle for the chairmanship of the Copyright Right Society of Nigeria (COSON) still rages on after Efe Omorogbe, the founder and chief executive officer of Now Muzik Ltd was paraded before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for forgery.

Omorogbe, 47, who is at loggerheads with former Performing Musician Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) president, Tony Okoroji, over the chairmanship of COSON was arraigned on Thursday alongside Joel Ajayi for forging COSON letter head.

The pair who are standing trial on a three-count charge of forgery, use of false document and breach of peace were brought before Magistrate O. O. Oshin by the Zone II Police Command Headquarters, Obalende.

According to the prosecutor, Police Sgt. Friday Mameh while addressing the court, the pair committed the crimes on December 7, 2017 at No. 41, Oluwaleyimu Street, Ikeja.

“The accused forged the letterhead with intent that it may be acted upon or used as genuine…to the prejudice of COSON,” the prosecutor said.

“The accused also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by storming the meeting venue of Chief Tony Okoroji with thugs and disrupted the proceedings,” Mameh added.

The prosecutor also noted that the offences committed by the pair who pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them contravened Sections 168 (d), 363 and 376 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Before adjourning the case until May 17 for mention Mrs Oshin, the presiding judge granted each accused person N250,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.

She also ruled that each surety must have a sustainable means of livelihood with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Trouble started when Omorogbe who is also a Co-Founder and Director of 960 Music Group was announced to have been appointed as the new Chairman of COSON on the 7th of December, 2017.

Reports say Omorogbe was appointed as the new Chairman after thorough deliberations by members of the COSON Board which lasted several hours at the COSON House.

However, drama ensued two weeks later when Tony Okoroji was theatrically installed again to lead the society by members of COSON who said they wanted him to continue his leadership.

Okoroji said the initial move to replace him with Omoregbe was bizarre and a conspiracy.
