BATTLE FOR COSON: Omoregbe takes action as boss despite lawsuit filed by Okoroji

The drama over the battle for the chairmanship of the Copy Right Society of Nigeria (COSON) is set to go to the wire after the faction led by Efe Omorogbe referred to as the ‘authentic chairman’ and his directors; Dare Fasasi, Obi Asika, Joel Ajayi, Sikiru Agboola (represented by Oby Egbe and Audu Maikori (represented by Seyi Lawal) held an emergency board meeting yesterday at the COSON office in Ikeja.

The meeting was staged despite the lawsuit with case No ID/4827/GCMW18 filed against Mr. Omorogbe by Tony Okoroji restraining him from parading himself as Chairman of COSON.

Reports say Omorogbe and his group staged the meeting at the front of COSON premises despite the fact that the office was under lock and key following a directive by Chinedu Chukwudi, who is said to be Okoroji’s key accomplice.

A number of resolutions, among which was the disengagement of White Dove Solicitors as COSON lawyers and the withdrawal of COSON as a plaintiff in the preparatory suit of which Omorogbe was notified via advance copy were reached at the meeting witnessed by NCC representatives led by Mr. Obi Ezeilo and the head of Lagos Zonal Office.

The board also adopted a resolution for the immediate suspension Mr. Chinedu Chukwudi as General Manager of COSON and appointment of Bernice Eremieghe to act as general manager until further notice.

Other resolutions include the changing of the signatories to the COSON account, the initiation of a full forensic audit of COSON account from January 2015 to December 2017 and consultations with the COSON lawyers, the NCC and MCSN before the adoption of a position on the court judgement.

The two factions emerged after Omorogbe who is also a Co-Founder and Director of 960 Music Group was announced to have been appointed as the new Chairman of COSON on the 7th of December, 2017.

Reports say Omorogbe was appointed as the new Chairman after thorough deliberations by members of the COSON Board which lasted several hours at the COSON House.

However, drama ensued two weeks later when Tony Okoroji was theatrically installed again to lead the society by members of COSON who said they wanted him to continue his leadership.

Okoroji said the initial move to replace him with Omorogbe was ‘bizarre and a conspiracy’.
