It's official! Bala Mohammed wins Bauchi governorship election

The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed is against the wish of his colleagues on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to set up state police.

He argued, that Nigeria is not yet ripe enough for such a complex venture.

According to Governor Mohammed who made the comments on Friday when he received the Emirs of Ningi, Mohammed Inusa Danyaya and of Misau, Ahmed Suleiman when they paid him a visit at the Government House, Bauchi, the idea will not work because of its ethno-political implications.

Governor Mohammed said his administration would not accept the idea of constituting state police but instead, it will concentrate its efforts at setting up a Security Trust Fund, which will empower traditional leaders to address insecurity in their respective domains because they are the custodians of the people around them.

He said; “I am dissatisfied with the involvement of traditional institutions in the last general elections in the state, and I am sing this medium to caution them against political interference in order to maintain their respect.

“I am using this medium to engage traditional institutions in the state as part of efforts to ensure the maintenance of peace, security and peaceful coexistence among the people of Misau Emirate,” he added.

Recall last week that PDP governors met and declared their total support for creation of state police, and have demanded for its immediate establishment in order for Nigeria to cushion the worsening insecurity situation currently facing it and its citizens.

The comments by the governor comes a day after he signed the N197bn 2019 appropriation bill into law.

Governor Bala Mohammed assented to the budget after a downward review from N198bn proposed and submitted to the House of Assembly by former governor Mohammad Abubakar on December 20, 2018.

Speaking after signing the revised budget at the Council Chamber, Government House Bauchi, he thanked members of the Assembly for the speedy review of the revised budget.
