The Bauchi State Government has strongly criticized Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, for his remarks targeting Governor Bala Mohammed over the governor’s critique of the Tax Reform Bills.

In a statement titled “Sunday Dare’s Divisive and Unprofessional Rhetoric: Enough is Enough,” Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, defended Governor Mohammed’s stance, emphasizing his respect for the Office of the President while maintaining that constructive criticism is a cornerstone of democracy.

“Respect does not preclude critique in a democracy,” Gidado stated. “We urge Mr. Dare to channel his efforts towards promoting the President’s policies and achievements, if any, rather than disparaging those offering constructive feedback.”

Gidado accused Dare of undermining democratic values through divisive rhetoric. “His recent tirade is not only beneath the dignity of someone speaking on behalf of the President but also undermines the principles of democracy and constructive governance,” he said.

He further criticized Dare’s timing, describing his remarks as “ill-timed and unprofessional,” pointing out that they were issued during a period of national reflection, including Jumat prayers and Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

“By prioritizing political attacks over honoring Nigeria’s fallen heroes, Mr. Dare displayed poor judgment unbecoming of his office,” Gidado added.

Gidado rejected Dare’s claims of “irresponsible politics,” highlighting Governor Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State, including infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and agricultural initiatives.

“From transformative infrastructure projects to human capital development, Governor Mohammed has delivered measurable progress that has earned national and international recognition,” Gidado said.

He also defended the governor’s critique of the Tax Reform Bills, stating, “Governor Mohammed’s remarks were grounded in patriotism and a desire to ensure that national policies reflect the voices of all Nigerians. His critique stems from his extensive experience as a former FCT Minister, a second-term governor, and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.”

The statement demanded greater transparency from the Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee, alleging that their so-called consultations were merely briefings rather than inclusive dialogues.

“We formally demand that the committee publicly release detailed consultation reports with stakeholder inputs, in line with the Freedom of Information Act,” Gidado declared.

Gidado urged the Presidency’s media team to focus on highlighting President Tinubu’s accomplishments in critical areas such as security, economy, and infrastructure rather than engaging in needless squabbles.

He concluded by calling for professionalism and diplomacy from Dare, asserting, “His role as Media Adviser demands an unwavering commitment to uniting Nigerians behind the President’s vision, not sowing division or distracting from critical national issues.”

The statement reaffirmed Governor Mohammed’s commitment to fostering dialogue and inclusive governance while reiterating his administration’s achievements and ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Bauchi residents.
