LGs get 223m for vote buying during rerun election

Opposition political parties on the platform of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has applauded court ruling on the collation of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State governorship election results.

An Abuja Federal High Court had this Monday vacated the order restricting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from continuing with the collation election result of the LGA.

Responding to the ruling, CUPP said in a statement by its first national spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, that the ruling was a huge victory for the country’s constitutional democracy and end to “shameful attempts” to deny the Bauchi people their constitutional right to elect a leader of their choice.

“CUPP hails Federal High Court’s ruling delivered a few minutes ago in Abuja vacating the order restricting INEC from continuing the collation of governorship election result from Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area and declaring the winner of Bauchi State governorship election.

“The road is now clear for the official declaration of Senator Bala Mohammed as the governor-elect of Bauchi State.

“This ruling is a huge victory for our constitutional democracy and an end to the shameful attempts by enemies of our constitutional governance to use the court to ambush and deny the Bauchi people their constitutional right to see the man they elected inaugurated as their governor.”

PDP governorship candidate in the state, Bala Mohammed, is currently leading the state governor after the end of the last Saturday supplementary election in the state.

INEC however, failed to declare him winner because of an earlier court order that restricted it from collating results from Tafawa Balewa LGA.

Already, signals suggest that Mohammed supposedly won the election in the LGA when it was first collated.
