The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon, was nowhere to be found during a governorship debate for candidates of different political parties held Thursday night

The debate which was organised by the Push Africa Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with radio stations in the state, held in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Douye Diri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined candidates of other parties like the Accord Party, Ebizimo Diriyai; Green Party of Nigeria (GPN), Eneyi Zidongha; Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN), and Blessing Clement (MPN) in the debate.

Mr Okhiria Agbonsuremi, a seasoned journalist, led the debate panel which included Freston Akpo (Radio Bayelsa); Bukola Samuel-Weimimo (TVC) and Ezenwa Nwagwu of the Partners for Electoral Reform.

The debate came after a chieftain of the ruling PDP, Mr Keniebi Okoko, had on Wednesday challenged Lyon to a public debate with Diri to enunciate their plans for the state.

Okoko had thrown the challenge after the APC candidate allegedly claimed that there was no basis for comparison between himself and Diri.
