Bayelsa Assembly passes 2020 budget

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly Thursday passed the 2020 budget estimate of N242.2billion.

The appropriation bill christened “Budget of Consolidation for Prosperity,” which was presented by Governor Douye Diri on Tuesday, was accorded accelerated passage due to the exigencies of the moment.

The budget earmarked N51.65billion for personnel cost, N52.33billion for overhead, N91.48billion for consolidated revenue fund charges and N46.74billion for capital spending.

A breakdown of the budget showed that the lion share went to the works and transport sectors with a total of N8.6billion, closely followed by the agricultural sector with N8billion.

The education sector got N2.1billion, health N1.75billion, power/water N800million, housing/urban development N640million, sports N580million. Trade, industry, and investment received N430.938million.

The House commended the governor for making provision for the completion of the three senatorial roads and other key projects across the state.

Speaker of the Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, hailed the members of the House for their commitment to the service of the state.

He expressed the hope that the full implementation of the budget would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
