BAYELSA GUBER: PDP youths warn Dickson, chair, say anointed candidate may ruin party

GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: Bayelsans are doubting INEC's impartiality - Dickson

South-South youth chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed fears that the issue of anointed candidate may deny the party chances of retaining the governorship seat in Bayelsa State.

They therefore warned the state governor, Seriake Dickson, and the party’s state chairman, Cleopas Moses not to ruin the party by openly preferring one aspirant above the others.

The warning was sequel to Moses’ alleged open endorsement of an aspirant said to be Dickson’s anointed.

The development apparently, has been generating bad blood and disenchantment among other PDP aspirants in the state.

The youths, under the aegis of PDP South South Youth Vanguard, therefore in a statement by their chairman, James Efe Akpofure on Wednesday, warned Dickson to learn from immediate past governors of Imo and Ogun State, Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun respectively.

Both governors had insisted on ensuring their anointed candidate became their successors. All their efforts at the end amounted to futility.

“If they (Dickson and Moses) know that they have an anointed candidate, why did they allow other aspirants to pick forms that cost about N21m?

“It is not fair for the governor and the state chairman to give people hope only for them to dash it when it matters most,” the PDP youths said.

Noting that the governor and the party chairman might destroy the chances of PDP in the governorship election should they insist on imposing a candidate on the people, the youths added:

“The governor should allow all the aspirants to go into the field and fight it out and the best will emerge. We can still recall that during the PDP national convention in Port Harcourt, some of the governors were rooting for Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, but he lost.

“The governor should note that the best aspirant, who the people love, will emerge when all of them are allowed to fight it out in the primary.”

Recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan had also recently warned the party not to allow the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) take over the state due to internal wrangling.
