It's no crime to leave PDP and return, group cautions Dickson, others over Timi Alaibe

In what seemed like a situation of crying more than the bereaved the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has asked the governorship candidate of All Progressives the Congress (APC), Timi Alaibe, to drop his ambition, saying he does not possess the quality to rule the state.

The party accused him of being “a desperate power monger who lacks the vision to govern the state”.

Digging into his past record, the PDP said  because of his lust for power, he allegedly donated N10 billion towards the realisation of the aborted third term plot of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, when he was Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The state’s PDP State Secretary, Godspower Keku, in a statement in Yenagoa, said Alaibe’s antecedents did not qualify him as someone who could be a good governor nor did he have anything substantial to offer.

The party argued that among all the APC aspirants, the former NNDC boss has the biggest political baggage.

Keku maintained that Alaibe could not be remembered for any developmental project in the state during his tenure as NDCC managing director because of his lack of “relevant skills and leadership acumen”.

”It is a shame that somebody like Alaibe is coming out to say he wants to contest for governor of the state. The question to ask him is: what is he coming to offer? What was his antecedent at NDDC? In his years as the managing director of NDDC what did he do to better the lot of Bayelsans or the state in spite of all the opportunities available to him?

“Is it not true that instead of helping his own people he chose to empower his friends from the North and South West? Now is it not important to ask him if he actually loves Bayelsans? He should account for all the billions of naira budgeted and released for the construction of roads and water projects for Bayelsa state. Where are the roads and water projects in the state and what happened to the money so budgeted and released for this purpose?  Who is Alaibe fooling? Surely, Bayelsans don’t trust him. His tenure at NDDC was a complete disaster”, he said.

He described the APC aspirant as a “used and dumped” politician, because of selfishness.

“Is that a man that can be trusted?  Is that the kind of leader Bayelsa needs?  A leader who will mortgage the state and interests of the people for a pot of porridge?” he asked.
