Seems the women and youths of Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw LGAs, Ekowe and Otuan communities have resolved to take their destiny into their hands by forming vigilante groups to protect electoral materials for today’s supplementary election in the area.

They have also reportedly decided to stand up against militants bent on frustrating the elections, which was initially cancelled due to violence that erupted in the December 5 election in the state.

It was learnt that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) particularly happy with this development, hailed the women and youths for what it described as commendable gallantry.

It was learnt that the development was borne out of the people’s resolve to ensure that nobody disenfranchise them from exercising their constitutional responsibilities.

According to reports, the women and youth set up a resilient blockade to chased away political thugs who had assembled in the compound of a political chieftain to undermine the process.
