INEC officially notifies Melaye of recall moves, sets date for verification

Senator Dino Melaye, who represents Kogi West Senatorial district at the Senate has been described by his state governor, Yahaya Bello, as a mere social deviant whose activities at the hallowed chamber must be checked.

Bello therefore advised the Senate to urgently check Melaye before they (lawmakers) are adjudged birds of the same feathers.

The governor stated this while responding to questions from State House correspondents after he met with the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday,.

Bello, who was at the Villa to brief Osinbajo on the development in Kogi State, according to what he told the newsmen, explained that the acting president was pleased with the present state of Kogi.

The governor and Melaye have been engaged in a number of face-offs recently, threatening in the state.

Melaye unequivocally accused the governor of masterminding an assassination attempt on his life and presently sponsoring attempts by the people of his constituency to recall him from the Senate.

Bello has also openly showed disdain for the senator’s demand that he resign as the governor of the state over allegation of double Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) registration as well as the persistence of the governor that he was the one behind the alleged assassination attempt on the senator and sponsoring his recall.

But when asked to comment on the persisting crisis in Kogi, Bello initially pretended having no knowledge of any crisis in the state, claiming that the people are living peacefully without any issue of concern.

Questioned specifically on the face-off between him and Senator Melaye, which is generating tension in the states and recently resulted in the deaths of some people during a protest staged by the senator, Governor Bello said that if a child is denied good parental care and home upbringing, he would become nothing but a social menace to the society.

He said, “Talking of the Senate, let me rather admonish the Senate that, that is an institution that is held in very high esteem and I think the Senate and indeed the National Assembly is made up of men of high calibre and of high integrity and good character.

“I think it is necessary that that wonderful house should, as a matter of urgency, and as a matter of fact, check any social deviant that exists within them before they could be adjudged birds of the same feather. I know they are not of the same feather.

“But sincerely speaking, Kogi State is living in peace, projects are ongoing, we are all happy over there. Salaries are being paid as and when due and we are making serious progress.”
