Benfica wins record 26th Portuguese Cup

After retaining the Portuguese League title two weeks ago, Benfica Lisbon have defeated Vitoria Guimarães 2-1 in the Portuguese Cup final to clinch a domestic double on Sunday.

Benfica, who won their fourth consecutive Primeira Liga title after a 5-0 thrashing of Vitoria, edged past the 4th-positioned top-flight club to win the record 26th Cup title.

It was Raul Jimenez who put the champions ahead early in the second half, before Eduardo Salvio then headed in a Nelson Semedo cross to make it 2-0.

South African Bongani Zungu then headed in a late consolation for Guimaraes, as they finish runners up.

Benfica have won the Cup more than any other club, and the double is their first since 2014.
