Benue Assembly summons Gov Alia’s ex-aide over missing N1.78bn
The Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday summoned a former special adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Dennis Akura over a missing N1.78 billion.
Akura is to appear before the lawmakers next Tuesday to explain and refund the fund that was not accounted for while he was in the bureau.
The resolution followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Kwande West, Mr. Thomas Dugeri.
A report of the ad-hoc committee that investigated the operations and financial records at the local government level from June 2023 to June 2024 indicted Akura.
Dugeri said the house House asked the former governor’s aide to refund the N1.782 billion to the state government’s coffers.
He expressed concern that Akura in his reactions on social media denigrated, maligned, and impugned the resolutions and integrity of the House by calling the lawmakers unprintable names.
He warned government appointees against disparaging lawmakers for carrying out their constitutional duties in the interest of the Benue people.
