Benue govt imposes curfew on troubled Katsina-Ala community
The government of Benue State on Monday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Katsina-Ala town in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The development came following a recent conflict between the Ikurav and Shitile people in the area which led to loss of lives.
Announcing the curfew in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State’s acting governor, Ede Ogaba, the government said the curfew is with immediate effect and would be reviewed as the situation demands.
“The Benue State Government has imposed a 24 -hour curfew on Katsina-Ala with effect from today, Monday, April 22, as part of efforts to restore peace and ensure the security of lives and property in that part of the state,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the acting governor said it will be in the best interest of the people in the area to cooperate with security operatives by obeying the curfew because “anyone found fomenting trouble in the area or in other parts of the state will be apprehended and punished according to law.”
