Herdsmen kill 5 as Buhari visits Plateau

The ongoing onslaught of attacks by herdsmen on Benue State is yet to abate after no less than five farmers were killed and scores rendered homeless following a fresh attack at Umenger community, in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the herdsmen attacked the village which happens to be the hamlet of Governor Samuel Ortom when residents had gone back to check the rubble of their houses razed by the herders who attacked earlier to see whether they could rebuild their houses.

The incident was confirmed by Ortom’s Security Adviser, Col. Paul Hemba (rtd) while a survivor revealed that the herdsmen had laid ambush for them as soon as they were approaching the village.

Ortom’s Security Adviser said two persons, a man and a woman, were killed, adding that the invaders had taken over the whole village after forcibly ejecting the locals.

Hemba added that the invaders had camped on a hill where they monitored anyone coming into the village before they launched an offensive on the villagers.
