Besiktas return for Mikel as Chelsea‎ chase Pogba

In from Nifemi Daniel …
Turkish top division side, Besiktas, have turned their attention to Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, after failing in their bid to land Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva on a season-long loan.
The deal for Leiva collapsed on Monday when the Brazilian was handed a start in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Arsenal.
Besiktas, according to reports, are desperate to strengthen their midfield and want an experienced English Premier League performer to do the job. And according to England’s Daily Mail newspaper, Mikel is now on top of that list for the Istanbul-based outfit.

Mikel has appeared just once this season for the Blues, as a late substitute in last Sunday’s 3-2 win at West Brom.
But his chances of regular first-team football in Jose Mourinho’s side looks set to be further dimmed if Chelsea succeed in landing French midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus.
According to reports, Chelsea are preparing a £73m bid for the player before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
And Mikel could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the transfer window on September 1 if Mourinho secures a move for Pogba.
Mikel has been a Chelsea player for the last nine years.
