Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has insisted that the actions of Nnamdi Kanu were nothing but youthful exuberance.

He said he believes that his continued detention is a distraction.

Okorocha, who stated this at the meeting of South East Governors Forum meeting in Enugu, added that some leaders in the region are already uniting to see that he is released and would caution him once he is freed.

Meanwhile, the South East Governors Forum has unanimously resolved to wade into the detention issue of Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the group’s demand along others for a sovereign state of Biafra.

The governors also set up a 10-member committee saddled with a responsibility to fashion out ways to integrate and boost the economy of the zone.

Their intention was made known to newsmen on Sunday in Enugu State by Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi shortly after end of the forum’s meeting.

Umahi revealed that the forum particularly took interest on ways to resolve IPOB and the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) demands as well as the issue of Kanu’s detention.

He said, “We discussed the issue of IPOB, MASSOB, Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, ecological problems of South East and various water dams that have been abandoned in the zone.

“We have mandated the committee to meet and fashion out road map towards our economic integration. This, the committee will do in coming weeks and present our economic indices and development route in our next meeting.

“We equally agreed to meet with all stakeholders in the zone to discuss and address all issues of interest to our people.

“Other challenges such as power, security and other very many concerns of our people were also discussed and we agreed to immediately meet with the various and appropriate authorities to address them.”

Umahi disclosed that because of the importance of the meeting, “we (South East governors) decided to attend in our capacities as governors.” He added that they had already initiated actions on the issues.
