Biden meets Trump at White House, promises smooth handover in January
The United States President, Joe Biden, on Wednesday met the President-elect, Donald Trump, at the White House in Washington.
The two men shook hand and exchanged pleasantries in front of camera outside the Oval Office.
The 81-year-old Biden offered his congratulations and said to Trump “welcome back,” referring to the latter’s remarkable victory in the November 5 presidential election.
Biden assured the former president, who he defeated the 2020 election of smooth handover in January next year.
He told the incoming president he was looking forward to having a smooth transition.
“We will do everything we can to ensure you are accommodated, have what you need,” he told Trump.
Trump on his part commended the president for pledging a smooth transition.
The 78-year-old defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the election, winning in many of the swing states, including Philadelphia regarded as the Democrats stronghold in previous elections.
