Bin Laden's son labelled 'global terrorist' as US adds him to blacklist

The son of late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been added to the US counter-terrorism blacklist after sanctions were imposed on him by America which has designated him as a “global terrorist”.

Hamza bin Laden was officially named an al-Qaeda member in 2015, according to the US state department and it is believed that the move to blacklist him would keep him from accessing the US financial system.

The State and Treasury departments said on Thursday they had designated Hamza bin Laden a “global terrorist” who they said had “called for acts of terrorism in Western capitals”.

Egyptian deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri has since taken up the reins of al-Qaeda, but Hamza has also issued audio messages to supporters.
