Boat operator docked for failing to provide life jackets

23-yr-old remanded in prison custody for allegedly beheading his wife

A 19-year-old boat operator, Solomon Olugbenga, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for operating a boat service without providing life jackets to his passengers.

Olugbenga, who was arraigned on a one count charge of endangering the lives of commuters, was said to have allegedly endangered the lives of his passengers on March 28 at about 9am at the National Inland Waterways Authority, Marina, Lagos, while ferrying them across the waterways without life jackets.

Police prosecutor, Godspower Ehizoba said the offence contravened Section 255 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs F. O. Sasanya, admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

According to the Magistrate, the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a blood relation of the defendant.

She adjourned the case till May 13 for commencement of trial.
