Boko Haram attacks military base in Borno, kills 4 UN workers, 1 abducted

An attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Rann community in Kala Balge Local Government of Borno has left no less than four UN aid workers killed while one other female aid worker was abducted by the assailants.

Sources from the town revealed that the insurgents, moving in gun trucks and motorcycles, infiltrated the town, attacked a military base and a displaced persons’ camp.

The incident was confirmed to newsmen on Friday in Maiduguri, by Samantha Newport, Head of Communications, UNICEF Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), who also revealed that another aid worker sustained injuries in the attack.

Newport said two of the deceased were personnel of UN client organisation, International Organisation of Migration (IOM), deployed to Rann as camp managers.
