BOKO HARAM: Civil Defence echos military’s claims, declares ‘war’ over

The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has set up Peace Clinic in Benue, Taraba, Borno, Zamfara and other troubled areas in the country.

This was announced in a statement NSCDC Public Relation Officer (PRO), DCC Emmanuel Okeh, made available to Ripples Nigeria on Monday.

The mentioned areas have come under attack by the Boko Haram terror groups, and have also witnessed killings of many innocent Nigerians due to attacks by suspected herdsmen.

The NSCDC statement read, “In order to find lasting resolutions to the conflict in the troubled states of the federation, the Corps has finalized the deployment of over five hundred chartered mediators/conciliators of the corps certified by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Peace Clinic has been set up in order to win peace in liberated areas since the military have won the war. This is a service to guide Nigerians through the crisis management process, and make sure that their voice is heard, leading to real change.”

The PRO further said that Gana has charged the corps specialists to “put in their best into use” wherever they may find themselves.

“You must justify the enormous resources that were deployed to give you such world-class training as peace specialists,” the statement quoted Gana as saying.

The Nigerian military has severally claimed that the war against the insurgent group Boko Haram had been won, and that the terrorists had been defeated.

It has on more than one occasion also claimed to have either fatally wounded, or killed the leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau, only for him to resurface in video recording later, denying the military’s claims.

Also, pockets of attacks within the troubled areas of the country have raised questions as to the accuracy of the military’s claim that the terror group had been totally defeated.
